Conscious Architecture · Patiala, Punjab
Conscious Architecture where neuroscience, sensory intelligence, and ancient spatial wisdom converge into a single design act. Architecture is the deliberate manipulation of energy, perception, and human behavior through space.
Studio
SGL is a Conscious Architecture and Spatial Science practice — specialising in the complete intelligence of how space acts on the human being. Architecture is at the core. Interior Architecture, Landscape, and allied disciplines are available through SGL's curated design collaboration network.
We work at the intersection of spatial intelligence, sensory neuroscience, Vedic spatial science, and human wellness — designing environments that do not merely shelter, but actively support psychological calm, biological health, and generational well-being.
Every space either supports or depletes the human being within it. We design for the former. Always.
Conscious Architecture
"Architecture is the deliberate manipulation of energy, perception, and human behavior through space. Ancient systems called it Vastu. Modern science calls it Neuroscience. At SGL, we call it Conscious Architecture — and we practice both."
Neuro-Sensory Environmental Architecture — our unified framework — brings together five layers of intelligence that most architectural practices address in isolation, if at all. At SGL, they are practiced simultaneously, as one design act.
Brain. Senses. Nature. Experience. Physics. Five layers. One human being, living within a space designed to know what it does to them.
Space programs the brain before the mind forms a single thought. We design for the autonomic nervous system — the biological mechanism determining whether a body is in sympathetic stress or parasympathetic recovery. Architecture that activates parasympathetic calm is not simply comfortable. It is healing.
The body does not experience a building through the eyes alone. Light intensity, acoustic quality, material temperature, and the scent of natural surfaces each produce distinct neurological and hormonal responses. Every one of these is designed simultaneously — because the body receives them simultaneously.
The human nervous system evolved for 300,000 years in natural environments. Biophilic design is not a trend — it is a biological requirement. Living systems, natural materials, daylight cycles, and organic pattern are integrated into the spatial DNA of every building.
Phenomenology asks not what a building looks like, but what it feels like to inhabit it. Atmosphere — the emotional climate of a space — is produced by the precise interplay of all sensory layers working simultaneously. We design for atmosphere first. The details serve it.
Everything is physics — including experience. Light lux levels, thermal mass, acoustic wave behaviour, and harmonic proportion are measurable physical forces that produce measurable human consequences. Spatial experience is not subjective. It is physics.
Advanced Decoding of Vastu Principles
The ancient Vastu scholars were not working with mysticism. They were working with millennia of observed human experience in built environments — the accumulated data of countless generations noticing what spaces made people thrive and what spaces made them suffer.
Modern physics has since given us the instruments to measure what they observed intuitively. The conclusions align with extraordinary precision.
At SGL, Vastu is not a ritual checklist. It is a spatial physics framework — one of the most sophisticated ever produced — applied with full understanding of the physical mechanism behind each principle and the human consequence it produces.
| Vastu Principle | The Physics Beneath It |
|---|---|
| East facing primary spaces | Morning sun delivers full spectrum, low angle light that regulates the circadian rhythm and triggers serotonin production — waking the body in alignment with its biological clock. |
| Open Brahmasthan | Creates a natural thermal chimney — hot air rises and exits through the central void, drawing cooler perimeter air inward. Passive ventilation of extraordinary efficiency. |
| Heavy Southwest mass | The Southwest receives the harshest afternoon sun. Thick walls act as thermal mass, absorbing heat slowly and releasing it at night — regulating interior temperature passively. |
| Southeast for fire / kitchen | Prevailing winds in the subcontinent flow Southwest to Northeast — placing the kitchen here means heat and cooking exhaust move away from living spaces, not through them. |
| Northeast openness and water | Receives the gentlest morning light. Water here benefits from diffused light without excess evaporation, and prevailing winds carry its cooling effect into the building. |
| Precise room proportions | Harmonic proportional ratios correspond to the body's own geometry — producing measurable psychological calm recognised by environmental psychology as spatial resonance. |
Design Services
Spatial strategy, Vastu conscious planning, proportion science, concept development, working drawings, statutory compliance, and construction documentation. The building as a physics system designed for human flourishing.
Every window is a decision about circadian biology. Every ceiling height is a decision about the nervous system. Every orientation is a decision about energy. This is where SGL's entire speciality lives.
What This Covers
Design Collaboration Network
Interior Architecture · Landscape Architecture · Allied Disciplines
Where a project requires Interior Architecture, Landscape, or specialist allied disciplines, SGL coordinates these through a curated network of design collaboration partners. The Conscious Architecture vision, the sensory intent, and the spatial intelligence remain under SGL's direction throughout — ensuring design coherence from building to interior to landscape, without compromise.
Our Work
Formal Collaboration Partner
Where SGL is the mind and vision of a project — Company Space PRO is the body that builds it. Together, a client receives a complete, end to end service: from the first spatial idea to the moment of handover.
"Company Space PRO is SGL's formal development collaboration — an integrated assembly of specialist professionals who carry every project from design handover through to physical completion, legal compliance, and occupancy. No gap between design and delivery. No loss of intent between drawing and construction."

Spatial Psychology Specialist
Ar. Sukhmanmeet leads SGL with the conviction that built environments directly influence psychological comfort, emotional stability, productivity, and generational well-being.
Her intellectual framework bridges architectural proportion and spatial physics, Vedic spatial science, environmental psychology, sensory neuroscience, and phenomenology — practiced not as separate disciplines, but as a single unified design intelligence.
She works from the conviction that the autonomic nervous system is the most honest critic of any space. A room that activates parasympathetic calm — in which the body shifts from vigilance into recovery — is a room that is working. Everything else is decoration.
"Rather than designing for trends, she designs for longevity. Rather than designing for display, she designs for feeling. Her spaces do not announce themselves. They hold you."
A New Department at SGL
Built to learn upward, not simply outward.
Every practice eventually reaches a point where the work it already knows how to do stops teaching it anything new. SGL R&D exists for what comes after that point. It is a department built with a single, deliberate purpose — to take on projects of a scale beyond what SGL currently practices, and to do so in the company of professionals, consultants, and institutions already operating at a more advanced level than us.
Where our regular practice is built around delivering design excellence within the scope a client brings to us, SGL R&D is built around something different — the pursuit of capability itself.
Architecture, like most disciplines, advances fastest at its edges — on projects that demand more than routine practice can offer. Most firms encounter these edges only by accident, when a project happens to be larger or more complex than usual.
SGL R&D inverts that. Rather than waiting to be stretched, we are creating a standing intention to seek out the stretch deliberately, because we believe the fastest way for a practice, a state, or a country to advance its architecture is for its practitioners to place themselves, consciously, in rooms more demanding than the ones they are used to.
The fastest way to advance is to place yourself, consciously, in rooms more demanding than the ones you are used to.
The project carries a scale and complexity beyond what SGL is currently engaged in.
It offers the opportunity to learn directly from collaborators, consultants, or institutions operating at a more advanced platform than us.
SGL R&D is not open to every large proposal that comes our way. Each one is evaluated on its own terms, and we choose to engage only where two things are true together.
This selectivity is intentional. It is not a measure of exclusivity for its own sake, but a way of ensuring that every engagement under this department genuinely serves the purpose it was created for — growth in capability, not simply growth in size.
For work taken on through SGL R&D, our role centers on execution and coordination. We position ourselves not as the firm leading every decision, but as a committed partner inside a larger, more experienced team — contributing where our strengths are most useful while absorbing everything the project and its collaborators can teach us.
Every engagement under this department is structured through a direct agreement, shaped around the specific nature of that project — its scale, its stakeholders, and its goals.
Our position
Partner.
Not lead.
Inside a larger, more experienced team — by design.
SGL R&D is most relevant to developers undertaking projects that go beyond conventional scale, institutions whose work carries cultural, civic, or public significance, and government bodies advancing infrastructure or development at a state or national level.
If your project is ambitious enough that finding the right design partner has been harder than finding the right budget, this department was built with exactly that difficulty in mind.
SGL R&D is not a service we offer.
It is a direction we have chosen to grow in — deliberately, and in good company.
SGL contributes to the advancement of the built environment profession through structured mentorship, fellowship guidance, and practical architectural training grounded in Conscious Architecture principles.
